Richard Billingsley is a Research Associate in the City Futures Research Centre.

He completed his PhD at Sydney University investigating improvements to Deep Learning and its application to Natural Language Processing. He previously obtained his MSc from Stanford's Graduate School of Business and his MA in mathematics from Cambridge University.

Richard undertook research at UTS and helped with the 2019 world championship Robocup for social robots. Richard has founded two start-up companies, one in Malaysia and another in Silicon Valley, developing financial information and trading systems with clients including many well-known banks, brokers and government agencies. He also developed algorithms used by SydneyAI.com to provide news and financial analysis to investment advisors in America using artificial intelligence. He holds US and British patents in cryptographic transactions.
