Andrew is a sociologist with expertise in the areas of urban sociology, social policy, housing studies, and social theory. He researches a variety of topics, including housing insecurity and homelessness, social housing provision, urban governance, and the role of charity in contemporary welfare systems. He is currently working on an ARC Linkage Project investigating the lives and experiences of people on social housing waitlists, as well as several industry-funded studies into homelessness policy and programs. Andrew is Australasia editor for the journal Housing Studies and was previously co-convenor of The Australian Sociological Association’s urban sociology thematic group (2018-2021). Before joining UNSW, Andrew worked at the University of Queensland, where he held a series of research focused positions between 2016 and 2022.
